Nose Work and Canine Enrichment

NEW TRAINING CLASS!

Training Loyal Companions is pleased to announce a new educational training class Nose Work and Canine Enrichment Training.

Did you know quality socialization starts with their senses?

Did you know its more important to have a well balanced socialized dog than a perfectly obedient dog?

These training classes are all about using your dogs senses to provide socialization: Sight (vision), hearing (audition), taste (gestation), smell (olfaction), and touch (somatosensation) are the five traditionally recognized senses.

Environmental enrichment is the stimulation of the brain by its physical and social surroundings. Environmental enrichment is the process of making the animal’s living space interesting and stimulating so as to decrease boredom and its subsequent problems. Making things more interesting for your dog isn’t hard. However, you do need to be creative and vary what you do. If you do the same thing every day, that too can quickly become boring.

By setting up an enrichment room or area, your dog can explore as much as possible in the presence of other dogs and items on the floor for exploration with their senses. We want to build your dogs curiosity, and let them explore at their own pace, always being the dogs choice. We build curiosity by using different objects for your dog to explore, creating mental stimulation. By building curiosity, we are building new brain cells.

Enrichment Rooms and Senses Socialization will help with self confidence (great for shy and unsure dogs), improve coordination, build social skills for coping with the world now and into adulthood, mental and physical health to last a life time.

In this training class we will work your dogs nose with:

  • Interactive puzzle toys
  • Treat balls
  • A wide variety of FIND IT! nose work games!
  • Canine Enrichment areas and rooms, how they work and how to set one up in your home!

This class is limited to 8 dogs with one experienced dog trainer. Each training class is 45 minutes in length. Dogs must be friendly with other dogs on and off leash, up to date with vaccines. This class is a 4 week training class

Costs: $85.00 plus GST = $89.25

Arousal Levels and Stress In Dogs

NEW EDUCATIONAL TRAINING WORKSHOP COMING SOON!

We need to talk about the silent epidemic in dogs! Canine arousal and stress levels.

Over the past few years, I have noticed an increase in reactive dogs in my group dog training classes and private training, and it's time we talk about what is the TRUE problem at hand.

Arousal is a state in which a dog gets amped up, often occurring in play or in moments of excitement. Though it is typical of adolescent dogs, over-arousal can occur with any dog who does not have an emotional thermostat, and so such dogs need to learn how to better keep their emotions in check.

High levels of arousal and stress can be caused by many different reasons such as lack of socialization and exposure during puppy hood, misguided use of improper training techniques, genetic disposition just to name a few.

Lets get the bottom of the reasons why, and start understanding why our dogs are showing signs of arousal and stress.

This training workshop will education you the dog handler with the updated understanding of why your dog behaves the way they do, understanding canine communication as arousal and stress are commonly mistaken for over excitement, understanding thresholds in dogs and many different ways we can get your dogs arousal levels and stress levels decreased.

This training workshop is full of information handouts, videos and pictures for at home reading and visual guidance.

Picking out a Puppy

So many different questions! Do I choose a rescue dog or work with a breeder? What breed do I get as an experienced or first time dog owner? Older or younger? One or two puppies and what are the pros and cons? Male or female? How do I pick out the right puppy for me and my family? What do I look for when meeting the parents of the puppies?

THIS IS WHAT WE DO BEST!!

We offer pre consults with the breeder and rescue, we will come with you to meet the puppy and parents, we can set up a bringing puppy home consult where to set things up what do you REALLY need?

We are here to help with this overwhelming decision to set you and your family up for the most positive puppy experience for many years to come!
