If a new puppy needs some training or an older pet needs better listening skills, we have a class to suit you and your family. All classes use only positive reinforcement techniques, treats, verbal praise and petting to get desired results.

Training Workshops are to help you with specific doggie problems. Training workshops are for humans. No dogs please!! A demo dog will be chosen for that specific workshop.

Puppy Manners Class Level One:Dog Training

This training class is an excellent class for any new puppies in the home and dogs under one year of age!

Class format is:

  • One class once a week for 6 weeks.
  • Each class is 45 min.
  • 1st class is no puppies/dogs.  We go over training techniques, leashes, collars, recommended treats, nipping (mouthing), chewing, house training and lots more!
  • Puppy Manners Level One is for puppies age 12 weeks to 1 year.
  • Limited to 8 to 10 puppies per class.
  • Vaccines: Two canine distemper vaccines and kennel cough vaccine (recommended). Please remember to bring vaccine certificates/paperwork/receipts on first day of class.
  • Last class is your graduation class! Treats for the puppies, friendly doggie competition, trick training with your your graduation certificate with report card!

If you sign up for the Puppy Manners Level One training class, you may take advantage of your first daycare stay for free. This MUST be used within a two week period of signing the contract and agreement given on the first class. Sorry, no exceptions.

Class description:

In this class you will learn:

  • Eye contact (keeping your puppy focused on you and less on environmental distractions)

  • Impulse Control/Self Control Exercises
  • Socialization with other dogs and people
  • Teaching handling and desensitization exercises of muzzle control, head control, ear and paw touching. These are helpful in your dogs life for veterinary care and grooming.

This class uses food luring (classical conditioning) to teach desired behaviors.

You may be thinking '...but my dog already knows most of these training commands'. Yes! They may already know sit, but can they do sit with other dogs and other people in the room?! This is how we proof the behavior for strength training.

Puppy Manners Class Level Two: Winnipeg Dog Top


Puppy Manners level Two is taught with a clicker. A clicker is a little plastic box with a piece of metal (tongue) that makes a clicking sound when pushed and released. Clickers mark any behaviors we like and lets the dog know by clicking desired behaviors. The click = human word “yes” or “that’s correct”. Clickers create a relationship with clicker and food.

Class Description:

  • Automatic Attention (Keeping your dog focused on you and less on environmental distractions)
  • Drop it and Take it Exercises
  • Awesome Name Recognition (Excellent training technique if your dogs name has ever been changed, and extremely helpful for your recall/come when called training)
  • Mat Work Training (Object of this game is - Go to your mat, complete a down behavior on your mat, and stay on your mat until I release you)
  • Moving Back (Hind end awareness - Back away from a gate, plate of food)
  • Touch (Target work) - Having your dog take their nose and touch the base of your hand (A re focus exercise and great for any agility or fly ball training)
  • Training polite greetings with interacting with other people and dog to dog interactions
  • Impulse Control/Self Control Exercises
  • Distraction Work
  • Socialization with other dogs and people

Class Format:

  • One class once a week for 6 weeks.

  • This class is for puppies and dogs of any age!

This class is ideal for:

  • High energy and easily excitable dogs
  • Independent breeds such as northern breeds or terriers
  • If you have referred to your dog as “Stubborn” or “Impossible”
  • Small dogs
  • If you are looking for a class to help sharpen up your dogs listening skills and increase your bond with your dog, I would recommend the Puppy Manners Level Two class!

You worked on it in training class, now its time to proof your behaviors and work in Real Life Training.

In each training class we will be at different locations, OUTSIDE!

We will work at places such as St. Vital Park, Walmart St. Vital Center, Moray Off Leash Dog Park, Bishop Grandin Parkway and The Forks Market.

In each training class we will work on:

  • Impulse control with distraction work
  • Eye contact with distractions
  • Understanding your dogs thresholds (keeping them from reaction)
  • Dog to dog interactions and greetings
  • Understanding where your expectations are for your dogs age and breed

  • All classes are with your dog
  • Pre requisite is Puppy Manners Level One and good manners walking on a leash

Who’s Walking Who?:dog walking top

Who's Walking Who is a 6 week course based only on walking nice on a leash! This class will help you understand why your dog pulls on their leash, and how to keep them focused on you instead of their environment. We will use yummy treats to help teach your dog what we as humans would like, and what doesn't suit our life style. Teaching your dog to stay calm and focused when other dogs are walking by, as well as self control, will help decrease that pesky behavior of pulling until your arms hurt!

This class is 3 classes of foundation work and 3 classes of teaching loose leash walking techniques. Included are amazing and extremely helpful videos, we also work on real life distraction work.

HINT: A very easy training technique to decrease pulling, is teaching your dog to follow you!

  • One class once a week for 6 weeks.
  • Each class is 45min

  Mind Games  Dog Recall Top

Dogs require a balance of both physical and mental exercise. Your dog might be getting enough walks, runs, rollerblades or other types of physical exercise, but is your dog getting enough mental exercise?

Mind Games is all mental exercise! Using a clicker for training, we will be stimulating and working your dogs brain. These exercises are best used when your dog is restless, over active at night, pacing in the house, coming home after a long walk and still doing 'zoomies' in the house. dogs will be less bored, tired, less restless and able to relax better.

The Mind Games class is great for any dog of any age. Works amazing with working breeds and herding breeds.

Common results seen at the end of this class, is an exausted dog when you get home and sometimes even the next day!

In this class you will learn:

  • Amazing impulse control exercises: Our end result after your five classes with your impulse control, is to have your dog in front of you, while you drop a handfull of treats over your dogs head, they don't touch any of them while holding eye contact with you the entire time...yes, it IS possible!
  • Touch with distance training using a lid
  • Figure eight (weaving a figure eight around your legs), even while walking!
  • Sit and stay for up to one minute adding food and toy distractions as time increases
  • Down and stay for up to three minutes adding food and toy distractions as time increases
  • Puzzle toy work in every class for 10-15 minutes.

  • This class is taught with clicker training. Clicker provided.
  • Each class is 45 minutes long.
  • Must be friendly with other dogs and people.
  • All classes are with the dog.
  • Limited to 8 dogs per class.
  • Prerequisite for this class: Your dog must understand what the clicker means by having attended another clicker training class or picking up your clicker at TLC or a pet store of your choice and powering the clicker with your dog at home. TLC dog trainer Christie would be happy to teach you how to accomplish powering the clicker at home by phone or email.

Cost for all 5 classes is $100.00 plus GST = $105.00 clicker included.

Kids and Dogs:                      top

Raising kids and dogs can be a challange! Full of ups and downs, with moments of frustration and discouragement. Kids and dogs class is designed to help the bond between your child and their new found fur friend, teaching boundaries and fun training tools along the way.

This class is designed for kids to be the main handlers, with adult supervision close by.

Class format:

  • Teaching kids not to be chew toys
  • Decrease jumping behaviors
  • Bonding with come when called training exercises
  • Training sits and eye contact
  • Proper food bowl exercises eliminating caution puppies while eating
  • Training kids for basic puppy information such as: keeping kids items off the floor for puppies to chew on, bedroom door must be closed and be like a tree program.
  • Teaching kids how to pet and approach a dog properly
  • Games at the end of every class such as musical chairs with their dogs, puppy kisses and so much more.
  • All classes are with the dog and child.
  • This class is a 1 1/2 hour training class with a 10 minutes break (for potty for the dogs)
  • Class size is limited to 7 dogs.

 Cost for this 1 1/2 hour training class is $40.00 plus GST = $42.00

Body Building Part One (Agility Training Class)  top    

Dog Agility is a dog sport, in which a handler directs a dog through an obstacle course in a race for both time and accuracy. Dogs run off leash with no food or toys as incentives, and the handler can touch neither dog nor obstacles. The handlers controls are limited to voice, movement and various body signals, requiring exceptional training of the animal and coordination of the handler.

Body Building is a pre agility course for any dog and handler wanting to start agility.

Your training instructor for this class is Diane Mitchell.

This class teaches:

  • Coming to hand: Teaching your dog to come to your side when your hand drops
  • Target mats: Teaching your dog mat work for agility training
  • Step stool with movement: Teaching your dog where their back end is, an important asset for agility dogs.
  • Boogy board training: Building your dogs confidence, working on balance, core strength, another important asset for agility dogs.
  • Jump work
  • Other training includes: Attendtion to your body posture, sending your dog in different directions and much more pre agility course training.
  • Your last class is an amazing fun filled game class.

One class once a week for 6 weeks. Each class is one hour long.

Cost for all 6 classes is $115.00 plus GST = $120.75.

For this class you will require a clicker, treat pouch and soft treats broken into small pieces. If you do not have a cliker you can purchase one at the training facility for $3.00.

We add on to your new found skills from the first Body Building Training Class and add on:

This training class is all about focus work, mutual respect, lots of target work!

Rally Obediencetop

You have completed obedience classes, and now you and your dog want more, now what?

Training Loyal Companions is pleased to offer Rally Obedience (also known as Rally-O or Rally) Training classes!

These training classes will be taught by Diane, who has just earned TITLE in Rally Obedience with her dog Blue!

What is Rally Obedience?

Rally O is a dog sport based on obedience for dogs and their owners. Dog and handler use directional signs to go through a numbered course within an allotted time.

Rally O goes beyond basic heeling by interspersing over 40 obedience movements with the sits, turns and paces of traditional heeling. It requires working at a brisk pace, having a positive attitude and happy demeanor.

Rally O is designed for those who desire an activity that is fun and games. This sport is a 'must have fun' challenge for you and your dog, working as a team together and learning new skills. This amazing fun filled sport is about trusting each other and mutual respect.

This is for all breeds, any age any size!

There are five levels of titles you can earn in Rally O including Novice, Advanced and Excellent! This is a class you can take again and again to earn higher titles!

 This class format is:

  • Once a week for 6 weeks.
  • Each class is 45 minutes to 1 hour long.
  • Limited to 8 dogs in each training class.

Class Clowntop

Trick training is an excellent way to bond with your dog, great for building self confidence for you and your dog and a perfect way to pass the time on a rainy or cold day.

In this training class we will teach:

Touch using sticks (Helpful for training tricks such as turn off the lights, go to a mark, heel position or push a ball or box)

  • Retrieve to hand
  • Wave
  • Jump through a hoop
  • Sit up
  • Centerfold (Lying on your back)
  • Wipe your paws
  • Take a bow
  • Cover your eyes
  • Barrel Racing (What this you ask?? Your going need to take the training class to find out!)

This class is one class once a week for 5 weeks.

All classes is with your dog.

Each class is 45 minutes long.

Cost for all 5 classes is $100.00 plus GST = $105.00.

Each class is limited to 6 dogs.

Pre Requisite for this class is clicker training skills, and a clicker. 

(If your dog is not clicker trained, or you dont have a clicker, no problem! There is an excellent website TLC can send to you on how to create the relationship with the clicker. We can also provide you with a clicker!)

 Recall:Dog Recall Top


This training workshop is designed to train your dog to come when called no matter what the situation. Teaching a recall is based on a relationship built on mutual trust and respect, and is best taught over time. This training workshop teaches common mistakes with owners that easily teach your dog not to come when called. Using positive reinforcement techniques, we will teach you how to save your dog’s life with a reliable recall.

There are four working dog spots (your dog is present for the training course) and unlimited space for spectators.

Working dogs in the training workshop MUST be friendly with other people and friendly with other dogs. Vaccines must be up to date.

Please bring a toy or chew for your dog when they are not working to keep them occupied. Also soft training treats broken in to small pieces for training.

Costs: $25.00/person plus GST = $26.25 and $10.00 each additional family member (spouses and children) plus GST =  $36.75

This training workshop is 1 hour.

 

Jumping and Greeting Behaviorstop

Does your dog jump all over your guests when coming into your home? Does your dog jump on you when coming home? Then this workshop is for you! Understanding why dogs jump up for greeting and how to get rid of that pesky behavior!

Topics Covered:

  • Teaching manners at the door and greeting new people
  • Decrease over excitement when door bell rings
  • Understanding jumping behaviors and learn how to deal with them
  • Teaching mat work and understanding how it works
  • What to do when company comes over

Congratulations!! Your family is growing! A new little new family member is arriving into your home soon. This training workshop is designed to help the transition when first bringing baby home to your canine companion. It covers common questions such as licking the baby, sniffing the baby, and how to deal with an attention seeking dog. This training workshop covers:

  • Creating safety first!
  • Reading your dogs body language and understanding when your dog is stressed
  • What to do upon arrival home with your newborn
  • Creating safe boundaries for your dog

This training workshop is 1 hour.

  • Teaching bite inhibition to humans and other dogs (the respect of their jaws and teeth)
  • Decrease and eliminate the frequency of mouthing arms and legs
  • Decrease and eliminate chewing on non doggie items
  • Biting too rough with humans and other dogs
